THEATRE “LA FENICE”

Venice-La-Fenice-EntranceThe theatre “La Fenice” is the main theatre of Venice and is sadly known because of two terrific fires that force a multiple reconstruction of its structure.
Unveiled in 1792, this building fired in 1836 and in 1996. In both circumstances it was rebuilt just alike the original.
The theatre was very important in Nineteenth Century, because it hosted a large number of famous grand opera openings, such as those of Gioacchino Rossini, Vincenzo Bellini and Giuseppe Verdi. One of the most notorious event concern a grand opera of Verdi, “La Traviata” that has been whistled in opening.
Venice-La-Fenice-InnerThe last reconstruction of “La Fenice” has been made possible thanks to a series of fund-raisings collected by international organizations and agencies, and after endless and controversial reconstruction’s works. On December 14th 2003, the Orchestra and the Chorus of theatre “La Fenice”, conducted by Riccardo Muti, unveiled the new structure.
Architectonically speaking, the theatre is famous for its elegance, reflecting the status of people who represented: the Venetian aristocracy.
Every year the structure hosts the International Festival of Contemporary Music and a rich operatic season.
