ACADEMY BRIDGE

Venice-Academy-BridgeThe Academy Bridge is the first bridge you encounter if you came from Saint Mark’s Square. It was built in the Nineteenth Century, made by iron, forming a rectilinear structure. With the new century was announced a contest with the idea of renovate the ancient project. The contest was won by the project of Torres and Piazza, in 1933, but it was never realized. Remaining the intention of renovate the bridge was built a provisional wooden structure, based on the project of the engineer Eugenio Miozzi. During the 80’s, because of some inclusion made by steel, the work lost its peculiarity.
