VENICE – ITALY

Venice is famous all over the world to be the “sweethearts’ city”, but there are a lot of things to do and see in this peculiar Italian city.
Venice is located in the heart of namesake Lagoon and divided in 6 district, named “sestieri”, that are: Saint Mark (San Marco), Saint Polo (San Polo), Saint Cross (Santa Croce), Dorsoduro, Castle (Castello) and Cannaregio.
In each of them you can find a large number of churches, monuments, museums and tourist attractions to admire.
In Saint Mark, the city’s real heart, among others there are Saint Mark’s Square (Piazza San Marco) and its Basilica, the Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the Saint Mark’s Bell Tower (Campanile di San Marco) and the Clock Tower (Torre dell’Orologio).
In Saint Polo, the downtown of Venice, among others you can see the Saint Mary of the Friars Basilica (Basilica di Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari), Foscari House (Ca’ Foscari, the Venice’s University), the Rialto Bridge, Goldoni House and the Mocenigo Palace.
In Saint Cross, the smallest “sestiere”, among others you can visit Roma Square, the Turkish Fontego and the churches of Saint Simeone (San Simeone), Saint Andrew della Dirada (Sant’Andrea della Dirada) and Saint James dall’Orio (San Giacomo dall’Orio).
In Dorsoduro, in ancient times named “Scopulo”, you don’t have to miss Rezzonico House (Ca’ Rezzonico), the Safety’s Basilica (Basilica della Salute) and the Academy’s Galleries.
In Castle, long ago named “Olivolo”, among others you’ll find the Arsenal (l’Arsenale), the Naval Museum, the Saint John and Saint Paul Basilica (Basilica dei Saintissimi Giovanni e Paolo) and the Biennial’s Gardens (Giardini della Biennale).

In the Giudecca Isle there are the Saviour Basilica (Basilica del Rendentore) and Saint George Church (Chiesa di San Giorgio Maggiore).
Besides Torcello Isle, there are two other isles you can visit: Murano and Burano. The first one is renowned because of its fine glassworks and you can buy at first hand small and big jewels of local handicraft. The second one is famous because of its laces.
If you like the game of chance, you can’t miss to visit the Casino at Vendramine House (Ca’ Vendramine) for traditional games and Noghera House (Ca’ Noghera) for American games. In the summer the Casino moves to the Lido.
Just the Lido is the another place you have to go. It is named “Golden Isle” because of its golden beaches with peculiar dunes. In this isle, every year, an important International Film Festival takes place.
